CHAPTER ONE
INTROUDUCTION
BACKGROUND
OF THE STUDY
The propose system is to
computerize traveling company to manage data, so that all the transactions
become fast and there should not be error in transaction like calculation
mistakes, bill generation and others things. It replaces all the paper work. It
keeps records of all bills, also giving to ensure 99% successful implementation
the computerized Bus reservation system. Our reservation system has three
modules. First module helps the customer to enquire the availability of seats
in a particular bus at particular date. Second module helps him to reserve a
ticket. Using third module he can cancel a reserved ticket.
In bus reservation system there has
been a collection of buses, agent who are booking tickets for customer’s
journey manually (e.g okun transport, ABC transport, Big Joe venture, Wazobia
transportation company, Ekene dili chukwu limited) which give bus number and
departure time of the bus manually. According to the name of our propose system
it will manages the details of all customer, workers, tickets booking, rental
details, and timing details and so on. It also manages the updating of the objects.
In
the tour detail there is information about bus, which has been taking customers
at their destination, it also contain the detailed information about the customer,
who has been taken from which bus and what are the number of members he or she
is taking his/her journey. This section also contain the details of booking
time of the seat(s) or collecting time of the tickets, this section also
contain the booking date, time and the name of agent which is optional, by
which the customer can reserve the seats for his journey, In Bus number
category it contains the details of buses which are old/new. New buses are
added with the details with bus no, from city to the city, type of the bus, rent
of a single seat, if the bus has sleeper than the cost of sleeper, if the
excecutive bus has the facility for sitting than the cost of mass bus seats,
tour timings of the new bus has also been stored. How many buses are currently
given and available in office?
In
seats specification, it gives the list of been issued and current available seats
and contain the information about seats like sleeper, excecutive buses, mass
buses etc.
The
main objective of this project is to provide the better work efficiency, security,
accuracy, reliability, feasibility. The error occurred could be reduced to nil
and working conditions can be improved.
OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT
the
proposed project is a web technology based product that can be implemented for
any transportation providers/organizations. This system provides facilities for
customers to reserve buses, full details of the customers are collected. This
system lets any kind of register transportation company to have an account for
login and checking for the reservation history of their customer. So, this
system provides customer booking information from various organizations terminal to decide about the
applications of the customer travelling schedule.
This study has its primary objectives, the
design of a system that will immense benefit to the goverment, operators and
passengers of all categories in traveling bus.
Other objectives of the study are to:
i.
Develop a cost effective, efficient in intelligent and user
friendly graphic interface for bus reservation system.
ii.
Eforce the timely and accurate report of bus operational
delay and other road mishaps.
METHODOLOGIES
The
methodology that will be used through out the development process will be a
variation on the waterfall life cycle. As the requirements for the project are
unlikely to change dramatically this methodology will fit the project. If the
project looked like the requirements would be changing often a more agile
methodology would have been chosen. The waterfall lifecycle works by following
a strict path through the development process not moving on to the next stage
until the previous stage has been completed.
The
stages for this project will be:
v The first stage of the
project will involve researching into existing systems, user expectation and
then drawing up the requirements of the project. Once we have the functional
requirements have been decided upon the
v second stage will involve
research into the non-functional requirements of the project for instance
security and accessibility.
Once
the functional and non-functional requirements have been decided upon and the technologies
to be used has been decided, the system will be design.
Once
the design process has been completed the implementation stage can begin,
although there will be no formal test driven development for this project when
new features are added or code is edited the system will be tested to ensure
that no bugs have been introduced into the program.
Once
the implementation has been completed the entire system will be thoroughly
tested.
IMPORTANCE OF THE SYSTEM
The
system is very important to the transportation management and also to the
customer in several ways:

It makes management work very easy and simple.
II.
It ease communication between the customer and the management
III.
It makes the company to be accessible from any where.
IV.
It also ease payment of fares.
V.
It helps to acquire customer data(details).
PROBLEM DEFINITION
The
definition of our problem lies in manual system and a fully automated system.
Manual system:
The
system is very time consuming and lazy .
This system is more prone to
errors
and sometimes the approach to various problems is unstructured.
Technical system: With the advent of
latest technology if we do not update our system
our
business result in losses gradually with time. The technical systems contains
the tools of the latest
trend
i.e. computers printers, fax, Internet etc. The systems with this technology
are very-fast, accurate, user-friendly and reliable.

few factors that directs us to develop a new system are given below -:

FUNCTIONALITY
The Customer and the Bus Administrator are the two parties
which
interact with the database, who have different ‘view level
schemas’
to the database information.
Ø Customer Services
i. Create an account by registering, modify
account
details, deregister from the
services
ii. Make afresh
multi passenger reservations, the
customers are provided to
choose their
reservation spots rather than
being randomly
allocated positions
iii. View , modify or cancel past reservations
iv.
Customers are provided with
different reservation
status, just as in real life
systems
v.
Consumers are informed, through
emails, about
updates in the reservations and
trains
vi.
Consumers are informed about the various seasonal
offers and discounts.
Ø Administrator Services
i. Add new train services or update the existing
train
services, e.g. modifying their
stopping stations,
stoppage times, tariffs, etc.
ii.
Add or update the physical description of trains, like
number of coaches, type of
coaches, number of
berths, etc.
iii.
Update information about addition
of bus
stations,
add new bus stations, drop existing
bus
stations, etc.
iv. Access and modify customer accounts or
customer
reservations
Scope of the project
Future scope of the project: -
The
project has a very vast scope in future. The project can be implemented on
internet in future. Project can be updated in near future as and when
requirement for the same arises, as it is very flexible in terms of expansion.
With the proposed
software
of Web Space Manager ready and fully functional the client is now able to
manage and hence run the entire work in a much better, accurate and error free
manner.
The following are the future scope for the
project: -
The
number of levels that the software is handling can be made unlimited in future
from the current status of handling up to N levels as currently laid down by
the software. Efficiency can be further enhanced and boosted up to a great
extent by normalizing and de-normalizing
the database tables used
in
the project as well as taking the kind of the alternative set of data
structures and advanced calculation algorithms available.
o We can in future generalize
the application from its current customized status wherein other vendors
developing and working on similar applications can utilize this software and
make changes to it according to their business needs.
o Faster processing of
information as compared to the current system with high accuracy and
reliability.
o Automatic and error free
report generation as per the specified format with ease.
o Automatic calculation and
generation of correct and precise Bills thus reducing much of the workload on
the accounting staff and the errors arising due to manual calculations.
o
With a fully automated solution, lesser staff, better space
utilization and peaceful work environment, the company is bound to experience
high turnover.
A
future application of this system lies in the fact that the proposed system
would remain relevant in the future. In case there be any additions or deletion
of the services, addition or deletion of any reseller in any type of
modification in future
can
be implemented easily. The data collected by the system will be useful for some
other purposes also.
All
these result are in high client-satisfaction, hence, more and more business for
the company that will scale the company business to new heights in the
forthcoming future.
